Cultural Fusion
On March 29, 2025, the Rotaract Club of the University of Colombo, Faculty of Arts, teamed up with the Rotaract Club of RVCE, India, for a virtual event titled Cultural Fusion. Held via Google Meet, the session brought together over 35 Rotaractors for a cultural exchange that celebrated the diversity and richness of Sri Lankan and Indian traditions.
The event focused on key cultural elements such as food, music, attire, religions, festivals, and notable landmarks. What made the experience stand out was the personal approach—members didn’t just present facts, they shared real stories and reflections from their own lives. Participants actively engaged in discussions, asking questions and drawing connections between their traditions. From regional dishes to religious rituals, the conversations were respectful, curious, and often eye-opening.
Co-led by Rtr. Sandithi Kalansooriya and Rtr. Ishita Poddar, the session allowed members to form deeper connections. Rather than just learning about culture in theory, they got to hear directly from peers living those experiences. It became a space not just for knowledge-sharing, but for genuine connection and mutual respect. By the end of the session, participants expressed strong interest in more exchanges like this. Many came away with new friendships and a broader appreciation for the cultural fabric of their neighboring country.
Cultural Fusion proved that international collaboration doesn’t require travel or formal events. Sometimes, all it takes is a shared screen, honest dialogue, and an open mind. This event was a simple but powerful reminder that cultural understanding begins with conversation.
