Nox: Curtain Call

The final dialogue is to be delivered, amidst hushed silence. After a year of enrapturing performances, we now stand at the edge of the stage with our backs to the curtain - amidst the orchestra's parting outro, staring into an audience in darkness. After a year of faith and loyalty, of the highest reception and valued critique, the time has come for the Editorial to momentarily bid farewell to her beloved companion and most treasured counterpart - the Readership. But not without the commendation, love, and gratitude it deserves. So here we are, after the music has finally died out, the applause simmered away, and the lights have come back on - all in preparation for our final Curtain Call,…

The Parting Glass

And so, the day finally comes around. The day that I wake up and realize that I am no longer bound by the duties and responsibilities tethered to the post of an Editor. It’s quite funny really, because I had always known this day would come and yet, as it arrives, I’m left feeling quite odd. A strange feeling creeps in. One that I know all too well and one that I, personally, am not too fond of. The feeling of farewell. “Of all the money that e'er I hadI spent it in good company” The Editorial was my home away from home in many ways. It was a safe haven that provided me with a platform to use my…

A Renaissance Of Our Own

To my colleagues, my predecessors, my successors, my dearest co-editor, and most of all,  myself – who was certain my perseverance and patience wouldn’t last a year After a grueling exam season that took the life and joy out of so many of us, I found myself sitting at my desk trying to tap into some artistic vein, as dry as it may be, to make this farewell a moment to remember. The need to mask my statements with verbose carvings and theatrics was too real, but instead, I’ve decided to disappoint so many of you who know me by opting to keep my flair for drama at bay. This farewell must be raw and direct, and coupled with a…

State of the Blog #1

Hello all! It’s been a while since you’ve heard from us, hasn’t it? We’re here to tell you where we’ve been and what the road ahead for us here at the Editorial looks like. The first few months, no doubt, have been absolutely electric and we couldn't be prouder of everyone in the team. December however, proved to be a rather slow month for us and if you’re wondering why, it’s because the Editorial took a much-deserved break where we gave all our writers some time to rest after what proved to be a very intense yet highly productive first five months. Trust us when we say that they deserved it. But January marks a whole new month and with…

Lumos

Looking back at the whirlwind of three months we’ve passed since the election of the new Board, we believe it’s safe to say that in our innocence, neither of us imagined a leap of such monumental proportions that transported us from being mere literary enthusiasts who occasionally (and might we add, quite enthusiastically) peer-reviewed each other’s work, to heading the Rotaract Editorial as Co-Editors. Let us be clear, we are not strangers to the fact that this is a rather ambitious feat in itself. For the first time in Rotaract history, the creative decisions are made by not one, but two editors working in synchronicity. And in the light of this alarming realization, we have now found our collective consciousness…

Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants

The inheritance of a post in an established organization is never quite easy. Will one live up to those that came before? Can we expect the same level of competence and caliber from the them? What is their vision for the upcoming academic year? All these doubts are prime candidates in the growing list of burning questions that throb and encircle one’s mind when new blood appears in an already existing playing field. However, the fact of the matter is that we, the Co-Editors for the upcoming Rotaract year, are not here to introduce ourselves today, for that is for another time. Instead, as opposed to usual tradition, we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate what came before, prior…

I Leave and Heave a Sigh and Say Goodbye

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end” - Semisonic Well here it is folks. This is probably the last time you’ll ever have to read a piece from me and wonder if my voice really has the same high-pitched and annoying quality that my writing seems to give off. Not that you’ve heard from me as much as I initially expected you all to - it’s actually quite a bit of pressure to write and express your opinions so soundly and confidently, which is something I struggle with a lot. But I’m glad that despite this, the blog and editorial team was kept quite busy this year, with a considerable number of articles being published throughout, none of…
