Well the year has officially come to a close. I am no longer the President, and the club has been officially handed over to the new board. If I am to say that I don’t know what to say right now, it’s true.  When I first joined Rotaract in 2023, I had absolutely no idea what it was. I was completely new to the movement, and I was a bit afraid that I wasn’t good enough. From my time as a General Member to being the President and now the Immediate Past President, a lot happened. And I won’t lie, there were some challenges, difficulties and problems that I faced that made me nearly die from the stress. But luckily,…

~ A Rotaract Story by Someone Who Definitely Needed an Assistant ~ So, Rotaract wasn’t new to me. I’ve been an Interactor since 2016, so when I got selected to the University of Colombo, one of the very first things I did (before even figuring out my course units) was join the Rotaract Club WhatsApp group. I still remember walking into the Freshers’ Orientation; a vibrant, welcoming space that left a lasting impression. That very first day became one of my core memories at university. I met so many new people (some of whom sadly didn’t stick around with the movement), and even more importantly, I met seniors who were unbelievably kind and supportive, some of whom I still turn…

Being a member of the Rotaract Club and proudly calling myself a Rotaractor was a never thought and never expected vision of mine. Being an extreme introvert and never having the courage and the opportunity to express myself and prove my capabilities, I never had the confidence to join a club at the university and get together with people, and work with them. However, when I heard about Rotaract through my elder sister who was a member of the Rotaract Club of University of Colombo, Faculty of Science, I thought it would be amazing to get that experience, and one thing that my sister told me before my enrollment was to never just stick to academics, and enjoy my stay…

My Rotaract journey began during my first year at university. At that time, everything felt new and familiar all at once. I didn’t know exactly what to expect, but I experienced something truly meaningful. One of the most beautiful parts of this journey has been the people — the friends I made through Rotaract quickly became like a family. Even now, when I look at my phone gallery, I have a special folder filled with photos of my Rotaract family and the memories we shared. The very first project I was involved with was the Healing Hearts project. I served as an Organizing Committee member, and it was such a special experience, that it truly touched my heart. This project…

My Rotaract journey began during my very first year at university. Back then, I was just a fresher; new to campus life and still adjusting to the life away from home for the first time. Everything felt overwhelming. But then, I discovered Rotaract. It helped me make new friends, have fun and make an impact to the society at the same time. I actively took part in as many projects as I could. From pre-event chaos to post-event laughs, every moment made it all worthwhile. Among them, International Service projects especially caught my attention, and that’s when I discovered my true passion for the International Service Avenue. I’ve always loved making international friends, joining virtual meet-ups, and connecting with Rotaractors…

(Ayadi) When I first joined Rotaract, I thought it was just another student club. I never imagined it would become the heartbeat of my university life, shaping me into a leader, a team player, and most importantly, a more compassionate human being. I began my Rotaract journey on May 29, 2023, as a first-year undergraduate during the orientation program. Motivated by a deep desire to give back to society for the free education I had received, I joined with nothing but curiosity and hope. With no prior experience, I was unsure of what lay ahead. But everything changed when I became the co-chairperson of the community service project Healing Hearts. That opportunity opened my eyes to what Rotaract truly represents.…

When we stepped into the role as Sports and Recreation Directors, we were driven by one goal: to bring life back into an avenue that had grown quiet in recent times. While the Sports and Recreation Avenue had seen minimal activity in the previous year, we saw endless potential and an opportunity to turn it into something vibrant, inclusive, and lasting. We knew it wouldn’t be easy. But what we didn’t realize was just how deeply this journey would shape us. A Year of Revival, Energy, and Purpose This year, we didn’t just organize events, we revived a forgotten heartbeat of our club. We poured in our passion, creativity, and countless hours of effort to reimagine what this avenue could…

If someone had told us at the beginning of this Rotaract year that being Club Service Co-Directors would come with midnight bus hunts, spontaneous dance-offs, and an unbreakable bond, we would’ve laughed and gone back to our spreadsheets. But somewhere between planning decor for installations and hiking unfamiliar trails, we discovered that this journey was about more than organizing events. It was about building a friendship so fierce and fun that it became the soul of our entire avenue. We started this year armed with checklists and cautious optimism, unsure of where this shared title would take us. What unfolded was a whirlwind of chaos and creativity, a journey of learning how to lead, how to lean on each other,…
