Month In Review

May was the month of exams—but even with textbooks piled high, notes scattered everywhere, and LMS tabs open round the clock, the Rotaract Club of University of Colombo, Faculty of Arts didn’t hit pause. Instead, the club wrapped up the month with a calendar full of impactful events.
Club Service Avenue
The Club Service Avenue, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Cinnamon Gardens, hosted Baila Night ’25—one of the most awaited events on our Rotaract calendar. Held on the 30th of May at King George Hall, University of Colombo, the evening was a lively celebration filled with classic Sri Lankan Baila tunes, dancing, games, and plenty of kottu. More than just a night of fun, Baila Night brought people together through music, rhythm, and cultural spirit.
Community Service Avenue
Tiny Talkers, held on the 6th of May, was a heartfelt community service initiative focused on introducing young children to English through play-based learning. Targeting nurseries within the Colombo Municipal Council area, the project featured engaging sessions filled with stories, songs, word games, and simple conversations—all designed to spark curiosity and build confidence in early learners. This initiative was made possible through a meaningful collaboration with lecturers from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, the Colombo Public Library, and the Colombo Municipal Council.
Professional Development Avenue
Writing Clinic 5.0 was an educational initiative conducted under the Professional Development Avenue, in collaboration with the Interact Club of Maliyadewa Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala. The session was held on the 31st of May at 7:00 PM via Google Meet, with the aim of helping students prepare effectively for the GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) English Literature examination.
International Service Avenue
May was also a milestone month for our International Service Avenue with the release of its very first Joint Bulletin, Nexus, created in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of R.V.C.E. More than just a newsletter, this edition celebrated global unity, highlighting impactful projects carried out by both clubs individually and together. It was a true showcase of how the spirit of service grows even stronger through cross-border collaboration and shared storytelling.
The Editorial
The Editorial launched The Love Gazette II—a creative blog series that invited Rotaractors to share their reflections on love. Whether it was romantic, platonic, familial, or self-love, the series encouraged open expression and celebrated love in all its beautiful forms. It was a heartfelt initiative that added a poetic touch to the month.
Public Relations Avenue
The Rotaract Effect, launched by the Public Relations Avenue, was all about storytelling with impact. This project spotlighted outstanding Rotaractors who have left a lasting mark on the club over the years. Through a series of short videos shared as Instagram reels, we got a glimpse into the journeys and contributions of these individuals—reminding us all of the power of commitment, passion, and service.
