Month in Review: April & May

Hey everyone!

Remember us? The folks who usually bring you the hottest updates from Rotaract Arts? Well, today we bring a double dose of it, but not-so-hot updates.

April, thanks to end-of-semester exams, was not a very busy month for our club. And in May, the strike by the non-academic staff hit! We, like everyone else, naively thought it’d be over in a flash, and we couldn’t have been more wrong.

With more exams and uncertainty around the strike, we were holding off publishing. Now, given that it has been going on for more than two months, we decided to publish the MIR. Better late than never, right?

Since this is the last update from your trusty MIR writing team, we wanted to take a moment to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who put their everything into these updates. You guys are the real MVPs, and it was a pleasure to have worked with you all!

The Editorial

During the bustling months of April and May, amidst the hustle of exams, the dedicated Editorial team diligently provided support by editing and proofreading captions for diverse projects across different avenues. Furthermore, we are working on our latest initiative, “Uni-Verse II,” as our final project. This endeavour aims to chronicle the myriad of experiences, both positive and challenging, encountered by our undergraduates at the university. Expect a captivating narrative that delves into the unexpected aspects of our members’ journey. Stay connected for forthcoming updates on this exciting venture! 

විභාග උද්වේගය පැවති කලබලකාරී අප්‍රේල් සහ මැයි මාස දෙකේ දී ද වඩාත්  කැපවීමෙන් ක්‍රියාකළ කතුවැකි අංශය අනෙක් අංශ මඟින් ක්‍රියාත්මක කළ ව්‍යාපෘති සඳහා අන්තර්ගත සංස්කරණ හා සෝදුපත් බැලීම් සිදු කළේය. එමෙන් ම ඔවුහු තම අවසන් ව්‍යාපෘතිය වන Uni-Verse II සඳහා සූදානම් වෙමින් සිටිති. එමඟින් අපගේ සහෝදර විද්‍යාර්ථීන්ගේ විශ්වවිද්‍යාල ජීවිතයේ අභියෝග හා මතකයන් සොයා යෑම අරමුණු කරයි. එබැවින් ඔබේ සහෝදර සහෝදරියන්ගේ ගමනේ අනපේක්ෂිත හෙළිදරව් බලාපොරොත්තුවෙන් රැඳී සිටින්න!

பரபரப்பான ஏப்ரல் மற்றும் மே மாதங்களில், பரீட்சைகளின் சலசலப்புக்கு மத்தியில், அர்ப்பணிப்புள்ள தலையங்கக் குழு, பல்வேறு வழிகளில் பல்வேறு திட்டங்களுக்கான தலைப்புகளைத் திருத்தியும் சரிபார்ப்பதன் மூலமும் விடாமுயற்சியுடன் ஆதரவை வழங்கியது. மேலும், எங்களின் சமீபத்திய முயற்சியான “Uni-Verse II”ஐ எங்களின் இறுதி திட்டமாக செயல்படுத்தி வருகிறோம். இந்த முயற்சியானது, பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் எங்கள் இளங்கலை பட்டதாரிகளால் எதிர்கொள்ளும் நேர்மறை மற்றும் சவாலான எண்ணற்ற அனுபவங்களை பதிவு செய்வதை நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளது. எங்கள் உறுப்பினர்களின் பயணத்தின் எதிர்பாராத அம்சங்களை ஆராயும் ஒரு வசீகரிக்கும் கதையை எதிர்பார்க்கலாம். இந்த அற்புதமான முயற்சியின் வரவிருக்கும் அறிவிப்புகளுக்கு இணைந்திருங்கள்!

Community Service Avenue

The Community Service Avenue wrapped up a successful year by collaborating alongside the Sports and Recreation Avenue on the Vesak Dansala held on May 25th, offering bread and seeni sambol to the community. This one-time event proved to be a big hit, drawing a large crowd and leaving a positive impact.

The Dansala wasn’t just about serving food; it served as a wonderful platform for club members to celebrate Vesak together. Members of both avenues showed excellent teamwork and coordination in planning and executing the event. As such, the Avenue directors extend a big thank you to the organizing committee for their hard work and dedication. They made the Vesak Dansala a huge success, marking a fitting and beautiful end to the Community Service Avenue’s projects for the year. 

ප්‍රජා සේවා අංශයත් ක්‍රීඩා හා ප්‍රතිනිර්මාණ අංශයත් එක්ව සංවිධානය කළ පාන් සහ සීනි සම්බෝල දන්සැල මැයි 25වෙනිදා පැවැත්වුණි. එය විශාල පිරිසකගේ සහභාගිත්වයෙන් වඩා ඵලදායි ව්‍යාපෘතියක් ලෙසින් පැවැත්වුණි.

එය ආහාර බෙදා දීමක් පමණක් නොවුණු අතර රොටරැක්ටර්වරුන්ට එක්ව වෙසක් සැමරීමට ද ලැබුණු අවස්ථාවකි. එම ව්‍යාපෘතිය සංවිධානය කිරීමට හා පැවැත්වීමට අංශ දෙකෙහිම සාමාජිකයෝ මහත් වෙහෙසක් ගත්හ. මෙම අංශයන්ගේ අධ්‍යක්ෂකවරු සසංවිධායක කමිටු වෙත තම ස්තූතිය පුද කර සිටිති. මෙම අංශයේ අවසන් ව්‍යාපෘතිය වන මෙම වෙසක් දන්සැල සාර්ථක කරගැනීමට මේ සියල්ලන්ගේ සහය නොමඳව හිමි විය.

சமூக சேவை அவென்யூ மே 25 அன்று நடைபெற்ற வெசாக் தன்சலாவில் விளையாட்டு மற்றும் பொழுதுபோக்கு அவென்யூவுடன் இணைந்து சமூகத்திற்கு ரொட்டி மற்றும் சீனி சாம்போல் வழங்கி வெற்றிகரமான ஆண்டை நிறைவு செய்தது. இந்த ஒருமுறை நிகழ்வு ஒரு பெரிய வெற்றியை நிரூபித்தது, பெரிய கூட்டத்தை ஈர்த்தது மற்றும் நேர்மறையான தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது.

தன்சல் உணவு பரிமாறுவது மட்டுமல்ல; கிளப் உறுப்பினர்கள் ஒன்றாக வெசாக் கொண்டாட இது ஒரு அற்புதமான தளமாக செயல்பட்டது. நிகழ்வைத் திட்டமிடுவதிலும் செயல்படுத்துவதிலும் இரு வழிகளின் உறுப்பினர்களும் சிறந்த குழுப்பணி மற்றும் ஒருங்கிணைப்பைக் காட்டினர். அந்தவகையில், அவென்யூ இயக்குநர்கள் ஏற்பாட்டுக் குழுவினரின் கடின உழைப்பிற்கும் அர்ப்பணிப்பிற்கும் நன்றியைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் வெசாக் தஞ்சலாவை மாபெரும் வெற்றியடையச் செய்தனர், இந்த ஆண்டுக்கான சமூக சேவை அவென்யூவின் திட்டங்களுக்கு பொருத்தமான மற்றும் அழகான முடிவைக் குறித்தனர்.

Professional Development Avenue

The Professional Development Avenue’s enriching project “Beyond the Labels” was finally concluded in April with the much-awaited Phase II of the project which was the Guest Lecture featuring Dr. Kaushalya Perera, Senior Lecturer at the Department of English, University of Colombo, on empowering women. Through an interactive and informative session, Dr. Perera gave us valuable insights into the challenges female undergraduates face at the university and the strategies they can employ to reach the pinnacle of their university life.

අප වෘත්තීය සංවර්ධන ඒකකයෙහි “Beyond the Labels” ව්‍යාපෘතිය අප්‍රේල් මාසයේදී අවසන් කරන ලද්දේ ව්‍යාපෘතියේ දෙවන අදියර ලෙස කොළඹ විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයේ ඉංග්‍රීසි අධ්‍යයනාංශයේ ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ කථිකාචාර්ය ආචාර්ය කෞෂල්‍යා පෙරේරා සහභාගී වූ කාන්තාවන් සවිබල ගැන්වීම මත වූ ආරාධිත දේශනය සමඟින්. අන්තර් ක්‍රියාකාරී සහ ප්‍රයෝජනවත් සැසියක් හරහා එතුමිය විශ්වවිද්‍යාල ශිෂ්‍ය ශිෂ්‍යාවන් විශ්වවිද්‍යාල තුළ මුහුණ දෙන අභියෝග සහ ඔවුන්ගේ විශ්වවිද්‍යාල ජීවිතයේ උපරිමයට ළඟා වීමට යොදා ගත හැකි උපාය මාර්ග පිළිබඳ අගනා අවබෝධයක් ලබා දුන්නාය.

தனிப்பட்ட / தொழில் துறை சார்ந்த அபிவிருத்தி அவன்யு இன் செழுமைப்படுத்தும் திட்டமான “Beyond the Labels” இறுதியாக ஏப்ரல் மாதம் மிகவும் எதிர்பார்க்கப்பட்ட திட்டத்தின் இரண்டாம் கட்டத்துடன் முடிவடைந்தது, இது கொழும்பு பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் ஆங்கிலத் துறையின் சிரேஷ்ட விரிவுரையாளர் கலாநிதி கௌசல்யா பெரேராவின் விருந்தினர் விரிவுரையாக இருந்தது. பெண்களுக்கு அதிகாரம் அளிக்கிறது. ஒரு ஊடாடும் மற்றும் தகவலறிந்த அமர்வின் மூலம், பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் பெண் இளங்கலைப் பட்டதாரிகள் எதிர்கொள்ளும் சவால்கள் மற்றும் அவர்களின் பல்கலைக்கழக வாழ்க்கையின் உச்சத்தை அடைய அவர்கள் கையாளக்கூடிய உத்திகள் பற்றிய மதிப்புமிக்க நுண்ணறிவுகளை டாக்டர் பெரேரா எங்களுக்கு வழங்கினார்.

International Service Avenue 

The International Service Avenue powered through with the project “Voices of the Inner Storm,” initiated by the Rotaract Club of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, in collaboration with our club, the Rotaract Club of the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, and the Rotaract Club of Benin, Nigeria. This project spanned the months of April and May. Upon the completion of poetry submissions focusing on life experiences related to mental health and poems portraying psychiatric illnesses, the project then shifted its focus to the recital of the submitted poems. Through guided video submissions, participants were given the opportunity to recite their own poems, or volunteers could recite poems.  

ජාත්‍යන්තර සේවා අංශය කොළඹ විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයේ වෛද්‍ය පීඨයේ රොටරැක්ට් සමාජය විසින් ආරම්භ කරන ලද “Voices of the Inner Storm” ව්‍යාපෘතිය නයිජීරියාවේ බෙනින් රොටරැක්ට්  සමාජය හා එක්ව බලගැන්විණි. මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය අප්‍රේල් සහ මැයි මස දක්වා ව්‍යාප්ත විය. මානසික සෞඛ්‍ය හා සම්බන්ධ ජීවන අත්දැකීම් සහ මානසික රෝග නිරූපණය කරන කවි නිර්මාණ හා කවි කියවීම් ඔස්සේ ව්‍යාපෘතිය දියත් විය.

கொழும்பு பல்கலைக்கழக மருத்துவ பீடத்தின் ரொட்டராக்ட் கிளப்பினால் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்ட “உள் புயலின் குரல்கள்” என்ற செயற்திட்டத்தின் மூலம் சர்வதேச சேவை அவென்யூ மூலம் இயங்குகின்றது. எங்கள் கிளப், கொழும்பு பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் கலை பீடத்தின் ரோட்ராக்ட் கிளப் மற்றும் நைஜீரியாவின் பெனின் ரோட்ராக்ட் கிளப் ஆகியவற்றுடன் இணைந்து. இந்த திட்டம் ஏப்ரல் மற்றும் மே மாதங்களில் நீடித்தது. மனநலம் தொடர்பான வாழ்க்கை அனுபவங்கள் மற்றும் மனநோய்களை சித்தரிக்கும் கவிதைகள் ஆகியவற்றை மையமாகக் கொண்ட கவிதை சமர்ப்பிப்புகள் முடிந்ததும், திட்டம் பின்னர் சமர்ப்பிக்கப்பட்ட கவிதைகளை வாசிப்பதில் கவனம் செலுத்தியது. வழிகாட்டப்பட்ட வீடியோ சமர்ப்பிப்புகள் மூலம், பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் தங்கள் சொந்த கவிதைகளை வாசிக்க வாய்ப்பு வழங்கப்பட்டது, அல்லது தன்னார்வலர்கள் கவிதைகளை வாசிக்கலாம்.

Public Relations Avenue

The months of April and May passed by in the blink of an eye for Public Relations Avenue due to the excitement of the faculty exams. Since the quota for the number of projects was met, PR continued its duties of making and adjusting various posts for important events and other avenue projects. The social media pages too were updated with the latest happenings, so the work continued at a moderately calm pace here at PR Avenue.

අප්‍රේල් සහ මැයි මාසයන් පීඨ විභාගයන්ගේ උද්යෝගයෙන් ඉතා ඉක්මනින් ගෙවුනු අතර වසරේ ව්‍යාපෘති සඳහා වූ කෝටාවද සම්පූර්ණ කර ඇති හෙයින් මහජන සම්බන්ධතා ඒකකයේ කටයුතු ඉතා සාමකාමීව කරගෙන යනු ලැබිණි. එමෙන්ම අප සමාජයට අදාළ වැදගත් සිදුවීම් සහ අනෙකුත් ඒකකයන්ගේ ව්‍යාපෘති සඳහා විවිධ පෝස්ටු සෑදීමද අප විසින් දිගටම කරගෙන‍යනු ලැබීය. සමාජ මාධ්‍ය පිටු ද නවතම සිදුවීම් සමඟ යාවත්කාලීන කරන ලදී.

ஆசிரியப் பரீட்சைகளின் பரபரப்பினால் மக்கள் தொடர்பு அவென்யூவிற்கு ஏப்ரல், மே மாதங்கள் கண் இமைக்கும் நேரத்தில் கடந்து சென்றது. திட்டங்களின் எண்ணிக்கைக்கான ஒதுக்கீடு பூர்த்தி செய்யப்பட்டதால், முக்கியமான நிகழ்வுகள் மற்றும் பிற அவென்யூ திட்டங்களுக்கு பல்வேறு பதவிகளை உருவாக்குதல் மற்றும் சரிசெய்தல் ஆகியவற்றை PR தனது கடமைகளைத் தொடர்ந்தது. சமூக ஊடகப் பக்கங்களும் சமீபத்திய நிகழ்வுகளுடன் புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்டன, எனவே இங்கே PR அவென்யூவில் பணி மிதமான அமைதியான வேகத்தில் தொடர்ந்தது.

Sports and Recreational Avenue

April

The most exciting event of the season, Rota Awurudu, was held on April 10 at the University of Colombo Grounds. It was held as an initiative of the Rotaract clubs of the Faculty of  Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Management and Finance, and Faculty of Law. Dressed in colourful traditional attire, participants enjoyed the day to the fullest with exciting Awurudu games and activities. This was a great moment for all rotaractors to get together and embrace the value of their culture and tradition.

ගත වුණු උත්සව සමයේ වඩාත් අපේක්ෂිත ව්‍යාපෘතිය වූ Rota Awurudu අප්‍රේල් 10 වෙනිදා කොළඹ විශ්වවිද්‍යාලීය ක්‍රීඩාංගනයේ දී පැවැත්වුණි. එය Rotaract clubs of the Faculty of  Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Management and Finance, and Faculty of Law යන සංගම්වල සහභාගීත්වයෙන් පැවැත්වුණි.සාම්ප්‍රදායික ඇඳුම් පැළඳුම් මෙන් ම උද්වේගකර අවුරුදු ක්‍රිඩා එදින සහභාගී වූ සැමට විනෝදාස්වාදය සැපයීය. සංස්කෘතික හා සාම්ප්‍රදායික අගය ආරක්ෂා කරමින් එකිනෙකා සමඟ විනෝදයෙන් කාලය ගත කිරීමට මෙමඟින් රොටරැක්ටර්වරුන්ට අවස්ථාව සැලසුණි.

இந்த பருவத்தின் மிகவும் பரபரப்பான நிகழ்வான றோட்ட அவுருது ஏப்ரல் 10 ஆம் திகதி கொழும்பு பல்கலைக்கழக மைதானத்தில் நடைபெற்றது. கலை பீடம், அறிவியல் பீடம், மேலாண்மை மற்றும் நிதி பீடம் மற்றும் சட்ட பீடம் ஆகியவற்றின் ரோட்ராக்ட் கிளப்களின் முன்முயற்சியாக இது நடைபெற்றது. வண்ணமயமான பாரம்பரிய உடைகளை அணிந்து, பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் உற்சாகமான அவுருது விளையாட்டுகள் மற்றும் செயல்பாடுகளுடன் அன்றைய நாளை முழுமையாக அனுபவித்தனர். அனைத்து ரோட்டராக்டர்களும் ஒன்றிணைந்து தங்கள் கலாச்சாரம் மற்றும் பாரம்பரியத்தின் மதிப்பை ஏற்றுக்கொள்வதற்கு இது ஒரு சிறந்த தருணம்.

Illuminating the importance and significance of Vesak Poya Day, the Rotaract Club of the Faculty of Arts embarked on another charitable deed, “Rota Dansala.” This was done as a collaboration between Sports & Recreational Avenue and Community Service Avenue. It was held on May 25 from 5.00p.m onwards in front of the main gate of the University of Colombo. This event marked the importance of charity and donation as it conveyed the true essence of the Vesak festival.

වෙසක් උළෙල සමරමින් අප සංගමය මඟින් රොටා දන්සැල සංවිධානය කෙරුණි. මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය Sports & Recreational Avenue සහ Community Service Avenue යන අංශ එක්ව සංවිධානය කළ අතර එය මැයි 25 වෙනිදා ප.ව.5 සිට විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයීය ප්‍රධාන පිවිසුම අසල පැවැත්වුණි. මෙමඟින් වෙසක් උත්සව සමයේ දන්දීම හා පරිත්‍යාගයේ අගය පෙන්වා දීම සිදුවිය.

வெசாக் போயா தினத்தின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை விளக்கும் வகையில், கலைப் பீடத்தின் றோட்டராக்ட் கழகம், “றோட்ட தஞ்சலா” என்ற மற்றொரு அறச் செயலில் இறங்கியது. இது ஸ்போர்ட்ஸ் & ரிக்ரேஷனல் அவென்யூ மற்றும் சமூக சேவை அவென்யூ ஆகியவற்றுக்கு இடையேயான ஒத்துழைப்பாக செய்யப்பட்டது. மே 25ஆம் திகதி மாலை 5.00 மணி முதல் கொழும்பு பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் பிரதான வாயிலுக்கு முன்பாக நடைபெற்றது. இந்த நிகழ்வு வெசாக் பண்டிகையின் உண்மையான சாரத்தை உணர்த்தும் வகையில் தொண்டு மற்றும் நன்கொடையின் முக்கியத்துவத்தைக் குறித்தது.
