Felt sour, will definitely have it later
Did you attend the Ambalama (අම්බලම: organized by the Rotaract club) yesterday? Did you try the achcharu we made? The ones who did, know what it tastes. For the people who missed it, this review is for you. As for the ones who tasted it, let me know if I’m wrong.
The Rotaract Club of the University of Colombo, Faculty of Arts organized a fundraising musical event on the 26th of January 2023 in the newly build section of the Faculty of Arts i.e. Ambalama or අම්බලම (formally the Wellness center area). With the chilly atmosphere and the musical tunes in the air, the achcharu was a center of attention for the audience. The greatest story about this achcharu was that almost all the Rotaractors helped in making it. It was a mixture of Nelli (from the faculty trees of course), Weralu, and Ambarella, and it was inexplicably delicious. First, we boiled all the Weralu and cut the Ambarella into pieces. Then we mixed it all together with Nelli and added Salt, Sugar, Pepper, Vinegar, and Chili powder. We thought of being creative & eco- friendly and we served it in a Banana leaf. Before selling, me being the “chief taste tester” I tasted the achcharu and everything was to-the-point. It was initially a bit sour and then the Chili kicked in along with the saltiness. If I’m being honest, I did not think it would taste this good. But it did! I would give it a 10 out of 10. The mouthwatering taste made me fabricate an excuse to test it several times before selling. After the event I ate maybe 2 or 3 packets more and I was still craving for more.
There was a surprise lottery/draw during the event as well. The winners received food items as gifts. If I were the to tell you how much of a hit the achcharu was, the lucky winner of the draw got to choose any two food items of his choice…and guess what he chose…achcharu packets (without hesitation!). By now we can safely establish that there is no need to exaggerate the taste of it.
Spoiler alert: we will be organizing more Achcharu stalls soon, so do not miss out!
