From Reports to Rockstars: A Musical Secretary’s Rotaract Adventure

As my tenure comes to an end, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve embarked on together. So buckle up and let’s dive right in!

First and foremost, a huge THANK YOU to every Rotaractor who dedicated their time and energy to our club’s initiatives. Your passion and commitment has been truly inspiring. Special shout-out to our avenue directors and the executive committee for their outstanding leadership and guidance. You all rock!

A special thanks to our dear President, Rtr. Gethmi Adikari, for all the wonderful things you have done. You can be happy that I no longer need to crash at your place and give you a hard time whenever we have a Rotaract event. Just kidding, you were always welcoming. Even though we had our fair share of ups and downs, it was an opportunity for us to learn and grow together.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the executive committee members who have been an integral part of this incredible journey. A special shout-out to our Vice President, Rtr. Yohan Soyza, who has always been by my side whenever I’m carrying my guitar to sing somewhere. Your unwavering support and encouragement have meant the world to me. I also want to acknowledge the dedication and effort of Vice President Rtr. Kavindi Gunawardena, our amazing Assistant Secretaries Rtr. Udani Jayalath and Rtr. Heshani Dharmapala, who made my job easy amidst the chaos and of course, our Junior Treasurer Rtr. Dinithi Athulathmudali who handled all the finances like a pro (and is a pro). Another special thanks foes to our Sergeant-at-Arms, Rtr. Ranmali Fernando who was always there for me, helping me and of course, sharing a laugh. I appreciate each and every one of you.

On a special note, I want to express my utmost admiration for the article series created by our exceptional editorial team. I have thoroughly enjoyed every article, as the ideas presented were refreshingly unique. A big round of applause to our brilliant editors, Rtr. Shihara Ferdinando and Rtr. Tharini Ratwatte, for their remarkable talents and dedication. I’m particularly impressed by their punctuality, organisational skills, and ability to take on responsibility, always delivering work on time. They are truly rockstars, and I am sincerely grateful for their invaluable contributions.

“To all the avenue directors, I ever annoyed,” first of all, it will be a huge relief for you to know that I won’t be bothering any of you again, asking for avenue updates or project reports. Rtr. Buddhimali Parindya, the director of the Community Service avenue, you are a superwoman who does everything in her power to make each project a success. Thank you for being a wonderful friend, a supportive hand, a responsible director, and sometimes, a crazy and enjoyable person. You were always there when I needed you. Thank you for being ‘YOU’.  Rtr. Sarasi Adikari, the director of the Professional Development avenue, your meticulous approach and professionalism have been truly commendable. Rtr. Jayani Herath, the director of the International Service avenue, who joined the club upon request and took charge like a seasoned pro, completing your tasks with utmost dedication. Rtr. Oshini Hewawaduge, Rtr. Baagya Piyamudalige, Rtr. Jehan De Silva, the directors of the Club Service avenue, you guys were amazing, and thanks to your efforts, our club’s name shone brightly. Rtr. Yasal Samarajeewa and Rtr. Anuruddhika Nethsarani, the directors of the Membership Development avenue, you were a dedicated duo and a valuable addition to the club. You provided constant support throughout the year, and I appreciate each and every one of you. Each of you has played a crucial role in the success of our club. Your hard work, commitment, and creativity have made a significant impact on the various avenues and projects we have undertaken. Our respective avenues have been nothing short of amazing! Kudos to all the hardworking Rotaractors who made it happen!

Personally, this journey has been a whirlwind of growth and learning. Rotaract has been my guiding star, leading me towards invaluable skills, fuelling my leadership qualities, and fearlessly propelling me out of my comfort zone. Despite the mountain of reports each month, I take great pride in my contribution to remarkable projects that have left an indelible mark. Skill-Up, Maw Diriya, Ambalame Thaala, and IGNITE were not just projects to me; they were like my cherished babies, and witnessing their resounding success filled my heart with immeasurable joy. And let me tell you, whenever there was even the slightest chance, I would eagerly grab a guitar and sing my heart out whether it was at club gatherings or community events. Sharing my passion for music with all of you has been an absolute joy, and I’m grateful for the harmonious memories we’ve created together.

I also had the incredible opportunity to venture far and wide for various projects, experiencing extraordinary moments along the way. Campfires, swimming in serene lakes, and relishing delightful fish BBQs made me realize how fortunate I am to be a Rotaractor. These moments of pure joy and connection will forever hold a special place in my heart. It was during these journeys that I had the privilege of meeting incredible individuals from various backgrounds, forging lasting friendships and connections. Beyond personal growth, being a Rotaractor has allowed me to actively contribute to society, making a positive impact while continuously expanding my knowledge and understanding of the world around us. Rotaract has truly been a catalyst for learning, friendship, and meaningful service.

Before I sign off, I want to wish the newly elected board specially, the wonderful incoming Secretary, Rtr. Baagya Piyamudalige, all the best and good luck! I have complete faith in your abilities, and I know you will lead the club to new heights. If you have any problems, regarding anything, I will be one call away. I still bother Dulari akki, my predecessor, even in the middle of the night and without hesitation she is always there for me supporting, calming me down and hyping me up and she has been a huge strength throughout my tenure. I would love to be ‘her’ for you.

In conclusion, let’s celebrate the successes, embrace the lessons learned, and keep the spirit of Rotaract alive. As my time as Secretary comes to a close, I’m filled with gratitude and an overwhelming sense of pride for what we have accomplished together. Stay awesome, keep making a difference, and always remember that Rotaract is not just a club; it’s a family.

With lots of love and appreciation,

Rtr. Tharushika Peelikumbura
