Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day

The International Day of Peace, observed on 21 September, provides an opportunity to reflect on the importance of peace in our communities and the responsibility each of us has in creating a more harmonious world. The 2026 theme, “Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” highlights the importance of making peace a continuous commitment rather than something we think about only during times of conflict.

Peace begins with small actions. Listening to others, respecting different opinions, helping those in need, rejecting discrimination, resolving disagreements through dialogue and supporting our communities are all meaningful ways of contributing to peace.

The Rotaract Club of the University of Colombo, Faculty of Arts believes in the spirit of “Service Above Self.” Through community service and meaningful initiatives, Rotaractors can contribute to creating communities based on compassion, cooperation and respect. Peace is closely connected with service because helping others and strengthening communities can create greater understanding and solidarity.

On this International Day of Peace, let us remember that peace is everyone’s responsibility. It does not always require extraordinary actions. Sometimes, it begins with a kind word, a willingness to listen, an act of service or the courage to understand someone different from ourselves.

Let us invest in peace—not only today, but for everyone, everywhere, every day.
