“Raw”

I stare at the field of grass,
the ponds of water forming in the muddy path,
the stream of water falling from above and I think,
Of disappearing from this world,
Like the rain that falls into the ditch and flows down,
To thread on a journey into the afterlife.
I think of my hands wrapped around my neck,
Squeezing with my bare fingers,
Till I choke from the pain.
I think of my nails dragging down my skin,
Wishing it would lead a bloody trail behind,
And break my skin apart, ripping my body into strings of flesh.
I wonder what it is I lack,
Of why my silly little hopes were crushed-
Till I stare at my reflection,
And I see everything.
I see your love that escaped my grasp,
Your fingers untangling from my hair,
And your lips drifting from mine,
Till your breath never kisses mine again.
I see and I realise,
My heart was a burden too heavy,
And my happiness, too fragile not to break.
I wish I could hear you once more,
Your voice in my ear in a sweet whisper.
The very soul in me hurts to not embrace you,
And say that I am sorry,
From the bottom of my heart.
